Residential Renovation : 155 Ridge Road, Coatesville

Located high on a ridge in Coatesville, this residence is originally a 1905 weatherboard home.  Various disjointed alterations had been carried out over the years resulting in poor flow and balance in the living areas.  As with many houses of this period, it lacked outdoor living and was closed to the northerly sunny aspect.

The clients required:

  • modernisation of the home
  • restoration of ambience and character
  • outdoor living and entertaining areas, and
  • the addition of a master bedroom and adjoining ensuite.

Most of the alterations occurred within the existing building envelope. They were staged in order to allow the clients to remain living in their home while the renovations took place, which was an important client request.

To retain the period-feel of the home, timber weather boards and corrugated iron roofing were retained, new timber joinery was installed, ceiling battens and villa profiled skirting boards were used.  The living areas of the home now open up to the sun and timber decks, outdoor entertaining areas and manicured lawns with mature trees.  The kitchen and bathrooms are now very modern, light, functional and stylish.
